With the strong motive to spread awareness about migraine and support the one billion people who suffer from this debilitating chronic condition. The Emirates Society of Neurology in partnership with Pfizer initiates an awareness campaign titled ‘Migraine Matters’ with an objective to raise awareness and promote public education on migraine and spread the word on the impact that this condition has on patients living with this disease.
Migraine attacks can have a significant impact on patients’ quality of life, and is the second most disabling condition worldwide. Recent studies have also unveiled the burden experienced by not only the patients but their partners and children as well.
“Two of the biggest impacts of migraine on patients are the psychological impact and potential abuse of medication used to treat migraine attacks”, advised Dr. Zakaria Ammache who is a Consultant Neurologist at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Dr. Zakaria Ammache also discussed the burden of migraine on patients and the challenges that this disease has on multiple aspects of patients’ lives.
